I was actually dreading to go to Youth Enrichment School (YES), thinking that I would miss out a lot of things and the bonding with my friends back home during the 2 weeks in camp. I went to YES having a horrific thought: “2 weeks of camp in Bible College Malaysia (BCM)?! Can die man! ” It is, in fact, the longest camp I have ever participated. Nigel and Matthew followed along too, which makes me glad I’m not alone.
The first day in camp, I was only picturing myself to quickly go home. Made a bunch of friends who are quite friendly and outspoken, but that didn’t change my mind not to go back to Seremban. On the second day itself, things have started to change, most importantly are the change of my perspective and point of view on this camp, that this camp was organized so that different people from different places can get together and learn about the Word of God and knowing the importance of visions, leadership, teamwork and ministries. Matters can discussed and opinions can be shared which are invaluable.
The lessons were very informative and the speakers were amazing and fantastic! They had also held creative workshops which proved quite useful like singing, dancing, and flagging. The days hereafter I begin to realize that the bond with the friends that I have made became so much stronger and somehow blossom into a brother-like relationship. We always have our activities together and give each other a helping hand when one’s in need. Soon enough, I began to feel that 2 weeks isn’t enough at all and it would be better if it is even a day longer. Eventually I find myself dreading to go home on the last remaining days of YES!
One thing that I’ve learnt from this camp is that we need to step out from our comfort zone and be lighthouses for God. Are we willing to leave our wants, desires behind or the comforts of our homes to serve God’s purposes? We need to have a constant reminder that this is all for God and not about us. I thank God that I have not missed this camp and attended YES, acquiring much wisdom not only for myself but for my friends too from this camp. I also thank God for the many bonds that I have made in camp and I will absolutely treasure them! I don’t have any regrets at all and thank you my parents for sending me to this camp! Strange to say that, the more people you don’t know when you’re going for YES, the better it’s going to be! If you’re finishing your SPM or STPM this year, be sure not to miss out on this fantastic camp! ;D
